Since the emergence of windows 8, all copier technicians have been asking what in gods green earth could have caused microsoft to put out such a dog that even kills scanning. In a rush to please, microsoft put out windows 10 which is basically windows 7 with makeup.

But microsoft still had to find a fix because windows 2012 server was also having a problem.

The fix update rollup 2887595

This windows update quietly came out in november 2013 and since no one wanted to crash their servers most people don’t know its out there.

This update fixes all scanning problems provided the scanning is authenticated with a login and password.

What does this mean?

When you send a copier out in the field and you can’t get scan to smb to work on windows 8 or 8.1 or windows 2012 server
1.Verify you have the latest firmware update installed on the copier/mfp
2.Tell the customer to install update rollup 2887595 and then the copier should be able to scan.

Sometimes just installing the rollup will fix scanning without any firmware update to the copier.
The rollup makes windows 8 and windows server 2012 accept the older smb scanning protocol used by the copier.
