UBUNTU: MOVING FILES BETWEEN FOLDERS AND HARD DRIVE ATTACHED TO A SATA EXPANSION CARD

I was tasked with moving files on 64 bit version of ubuntu to a sata hard drive attached to a sata expansion card ( sil 3512 ).

I unplugged the pc…
then installed the card
then connected the hard drive
then installed the hard drive
I rebooted the pc
logged into ubuntu
clicked the ubuntu icon on the top left
clicked the A beside the house icon
clicked disks
formatted the disk
named it
gave it all the permissions
it all looked good
when I tried to move a file from a folder to the new drive
I got an error
I tried a million and one thing before downloading the pysdm debian package.
I used the debian installer to install it
I opened it.
Then I unmounted and remounted my new drive
It looked great with a new icon
then I opened the file manager
I opened up the properties and changed all the permissions to create and delete, changed group to adm changed enclosed files to create and delete and read and write for all three options closed up shop and I was good.

I could move any file back and forth… with no issues
