The Application failed to initialize properly (0xc000001d)

I had a customer call me. He started getting this error after installing microsoft mathematics 4 on xp in virtual box. What happened?
He installed mathematics 4 but to install it he had to install .net framework 3.5.
That broke his system.
He started getting
The Application failed to initialize properly (0xc000001d) for a number of his game programs.
windows xp is not supported anymore so I told him to do a fresh install.
after much belly aching I took the job of trying to fix the broken operating system.
I stumbled upon wikifixes.
This felt like a scam…
so I backed up his software, games apps files whatever…
at this point we were ready to do a fresh install…
but I said lets try this wikifixes…
it couldn’t hurt..
wikifixes fix for the app failed to initialize properly 0xc000001d

It worked…
and my customer… is back again playing his games…
He swears its for the accounting program data…
me and his partners know better…
